Avoid Downhill Wipeouts
Niki Gudex
When you’re racing full speed downhill on a trail and there’s a rock in your path, what’s the best way to get around it without crashing?
I always look slightly ahead of where my bike is. That way I can take in the trail and upcoming obstacles so I can decide which line to take. I look at where I want to go, nowhere else. Sometimes there will be rocks you can get around, sometimes there will be rocks or roots that you have to suck up and go over by using your own limbs as suspension and also letting your bike’s suspension take up the impact. Speed and fluidity come from having fun and being alert while somewhat relaxed at the same time.
